Gustavo Henao brings more than 25 years of experience in bodywork, traditional disciplines, and holistic health, practicing continuously since the year 2000. As a certified Shiatsu Therapist and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Educator, his lifelong mission is to de-mystify ancient Asian medicine—transforming it into practical, everyday tools that restore health sovereignty to families worldwide.
At 54 years old, Gustavo considers himself a perpetual student and a dedicated self-taught scholar of classical frameworks. He spends hours researching traditional texts, decoding the modern mechanics of lingering discomforts through the lens of energetic patterns, and translating this deep wisdom into accessible education for the Yi Yuan blog.
Gustavo’s approach to domestic wellness is shaped by three profound pillars of experiential knowledge:
The Insight of Vipassana Meditation: Experiencing multiple 10-day silent courses has deeply anchored Gustavo's comprehension of the human condition. Through the traditional practice of Vipassana, he has spent decades exploring the roots of mind-body interactions. This profound training in experiential awareness provides him with a unique, compassionate perspective when evaluating the subtle internal climates that influence a person's well-being.
The Wisdom of Traditional Lineages: In 1999 and the early 2000s, Gustavo lived and learned alongside the traditional indigenous healers (curanderos) of the northern highlands of Ecuador. Witnessing the disappearance of these elders over the last two decades, he carries their deep understanding of herbal energetics and spiritual grounding as a sacred, living custody of ancient wellness paradigms.
The Mastery of Bodywork: In 2000, he mastered the traditional art of Lomi-Lomi bodywork, incorporating its fluid principles into his practice. Years later, he formalized his path in Ecuador, obtaining official certifications in Shiatsu and Massage Therapy—blending the rigorous anatomical study of bodywork with Eastern energetic theories.
Yi Yuan (The Origin of Medicine) was born from a profound call to service and a simple conviction: the foundation of lasting vitality is cultivated within the warmth of the home.
